Mambo
M
ambo est un artiste autodidacte, Franco-Hongrois, né au Chili
en 1969. Il a grandit en Amérique du Sud (d’où son pseudo aux sa-
veurs latines) et a commencé sa carrière d’artiste en 1985, baigné
de culture pop / new wave, musicale et colorée, nourrie par les B 52’s, Jean
Paul Goude, Kid Creole et bien d’autres encore.
Il a fait partie du tout premier collectif de graffiti parisien, La Force Al-
phabétique, il a été l’assistant de Sol Lewitt, mais aussi le directeur ar-
tistique de Groland sur Canal + pendant 10 ans. Toutes ces expériences,
et de nombreux voyages, du nombreuses fresques à travers l’Europe et le
monde, ont forgé son caractère et son style.
D’autres étapes marquantes pour lui ont été l’exposition Peinture Fraiche
au Centre Pompidou, la Street Biennale à Rio de Janeiro et Sao Paulo, ses
expositions au Japon, ses collaborations avec Agnès B, Prada, Moynat,
Guts, Laurent Garnier, Thierry Marx ou encore Snoop Dogg.
Il a vécu à Los Angeles pendant 10 ans puis s’est installé en 2021 à Apt, où
il a créé, avec sa femme, la Villa Bam Bam, lieu de détente, rencontre et
où se trouve désormais son atelier.

ambo is a French-Hungarian self-taught
artist, born in Chile in 1969. He grew up in
South America (whence his latino-sounding
pseudonym) and began his career as an artist in 1985, a
period awash with a colourful musical culture of pop and
new wave, with further influences from the B 52s, Jean
Paul Goude, Kid Creole and many others.
He was a member of the very first group of Parisian street
artists, La Force Alphabétique, assistant to Sol Lewitt,
and also the artistic director of Groland on Canal + for
10 years. These experiences, his travels far and wide, and
numerous murals to be found all over Europe, and the
world, are the building blocks of his personality and style.
Other stand-out achievements in his life are the Peinture
Fraîche (Wet Paint) exhibit at the Centre Pompidou, the
Street Biennale in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, his
shows in Japan, his collaborations with Agnès B, Prada,
Moynat, Guts, Laurent Garnier, Thierry Marx and even
Snoop Dogg. He lived in Los Angeles for 10 years then
settled in Apt in 2021, where he and his wife created the
Villa Bam Bam, a place for relaxation and get-togethers,
and where he now has his studio.
